Traverse City Parlor, Couple Host Benefit After BARC Fire In Kaleva
“This is going to be a big boost for us.”
A month after an enormous fire destroyed this charity recycling center in Manistee County, two people found a unique way to help raise money for it.
That fire leveled the Bay Area Recycling for Charities warehouse in Kaleva.
Quickly, the group came together and set a goal: raise $30,000 in 30 days.
Friday night at the Parlor in Traverse City, founder Andrew Gale says board member Nick Beadleston and his girlfriend, Lauren Hucek, decided to donate their 30th birthdays to help meet that goal.
With donated food from Oryana and a silent auction, at one point they raised over $18,000.
Gale says it’s a good start that will keep going.
“It’s just been amazing,” Gale says. “The whole community is just been awesome, reaching out with messages and phone calls and emails.”
“We thought why not take the opportunity to give back to a community that’s given so much to us,” Beadleston says.
We will let you know if and when they raise their goal money.
