Charlevoix County Man Sentenced to Prison For Driving Truck at Deputies

Steve Martin, the Charlevoix County man accused of driving his truck at deputies, was sentenced 18 months to 15 years in prison on Friday.

Martin was found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon back in December.

Body camera footage taken from the night of the incident, showed Martin’s truck traveling towards the deputy, before the deputy fired multiple shots.

At the time deputies were in an altercation with Martin’s son.

The prosecution argued that Martin has failed to take responsibility for what he did.

“It’s pretty clear what happened here and despite that even today he has taken no responsibility for what he’s done,” Prosecuting Attorney Daryl Vizina, said.

Martin was also facing a charge of assault with intent to murder, but was found not guilty of that crime.
