Northwest Food Coalition Receives Check For ‘Farm to Neighbor’ Fund

A new program will soon help provide fresh produce to local food pantries.

The Benzie Sunrise, Traverse City, Traverse City Sunrise and Frankfort rotaries just presented the Northwest Food Coalition with a check for more than $20,000.

The money will be used to kick off their new “Farm to Neighbor” Fund.

The program will support local farmers by purchasing fresh produce, which will then go to food pantries throughout Grand Traverse, Antrim, Kalkaska, Benzie, Leelanau and Wexford counties.

“That not only helps the farmers stay in business, but allows them to give back to their community too and then put the food into the hands of those who cannot afford to buy fresh fruits and vegetables,” said Northwest Food Coalition, Val Stone.
