Ice Buildup Halts Sugar Island Ferry
The Sugar Island Ferry is only running for emergencies until further notice due to ice buildup on the island dock.
The ferry company says they cannot jeopardize damaging the boat.
The Sugar Islander II runs from Sault Ste. Marie to the island.
The ferry is one of the only ways for people to get to and from the island.
They called it a night Tuesday night, after several attempts at getting vehicles off the island.
Right now the Sugar Island ferry is waiting on the Coast Guard to clear the ice to get things moving.
