Lake Co. Sheriff’s Deputy On Administrative Leave After Weekend Incident
“The biggest thing is that we want to be as transparent as we actually can be,” says Sheriff Richard Martin of Lake County.
A Northern Michigan sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave after investigators say he was involved in an incident near a set of local bars.
The Lake County sheriff says the investigation is now in the hands of Michigan State Police.
The State Police Hart post and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office are not releasing many details.
The sheriff says it happened Saturday night.
The owner of Debbie’s Sportsman Lounge says the incident took place in the parking lot behind two bars in downtown Baldwin off the property.
The sheriff says whenever something like this happens like this, the investigation must be done carefully.
“We want to make sure that everybody is treated fairly and we want to make sure that there is no impropriety in anything that we are actually doing here at the sheriff’s office, so anything involving one of the department members, especially, we are going to turn that over to an outside agency,” Sheriff Martin says.
The sheriff says his office is also conducting an internal investigation.
