Could the safest flying year be behind us?
According to the Aviation Safety Network, 2017 was the safest year on record for commercial air travel.
The Aviation Safety Network reports 44 people were killed in the 10 fatal commercial passenger and cargo crashes last year.
That is significantly lower than the five-year average of 17 crashes with 495-deaths.
All of last year’s plane deaths occurred on cargo planes or smaller, propeller-driven passenger aircraft.
Major U.S. airlines have not suffered a fatal crash since 2001.
