Holiday Travelers Deal With Snow, Low Visibility on Mackinac Bridge

Many in Northern Michigan are trying to avoid the snow to get to their Christmas destinations.

That means potential backups on the Mackinac Bridge.

The snow continues to fall and the wind continues to blow.

Drivers on the Mackinac Bridge are dealing with some low visibility.

A steady stream of cars are moving both ways, trying to make it to their destination before the snow starts to accumulate.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority says they normally see an uptick in traffic during holidays and weekends, so this will be a combination of both those factors.

A longtime toll worker tells us a lot of people are on the road for other reasons than just the holiday.

“A lot of colleges are releasing, getting out for the holidays. And you have snowmobilers this is the time of the year, they are anxious to come up for the weather, of course. So, we have a big flow of traffic,” said Pat Rickley with the Mackinac Bridge Authority.

Stay with Northern Michigan’s News Leader on air and online as we keep following the holiday traffic, and keep you updated on the Mackinac Bridge conditions.
