13 Michigan Firefighters Heading to California to Fight Fires

Instead of presents under the tree this holiday season, some Michigan firefighters will be dealing with fires in California come Christmas.

The DNR says 13 of their firefighters are going, along with seven members of Michigan’s Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The team left Wednesday and will be on standby in the Sequoia National Forest.

Since the beginning of December, several fires have burned more than 270,000 acres in southern California and have claimed the life of at least one firefighter.

The team could be tasked with things from fighting the wildfire directly to replacing local fire station crews.
