Get Your Hat On!

Fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald Houses across Michigan

You may remember, back in September, our own Michelle Dunaway walked nearly 50 miles from Traverse City to Cadillac.

That journey raised nearly $30,000 for the Ronald McDonald house of Western Michigan.

Today, she’s taking on a much, much easier job, and she’s encouraging you to do the same…

It may not say so on the calendar, but it certainly feels like winter outside.

Which means time to bundle up — from your gloves, to your scarf, to your hat.

Not only is the hat so cute, but when you buy one you’re giving back.

More than 500 McDonald’s restaurants are selling the striped beauties for just 5 bucks, starting December 7.

All the proceeds will be split between the 5 Ronald McDonald Houses across the state — from mid-Michigan, to Grand Rapids, to Ann Arbor — that money goes to help families in what is likely the most traumatic time in their lives.

The Ronald McDonald House is a respite for parents and siblings, who are often hundreds of miles from home because a child is hospitalized with serious illness or injury.

That’s more than 3500 families who have a free, comfortable place to stay — with food, entertainment and most importantly, support.

I have to say I had such a great time on my walk, meeting people and feeling connected to this organization and our community.

So many wonderful people gave so much, and if you are in the giving spirit this holiday season AND want a sassy new hat — head to McDonald’s and pick one up. They also have stickers available for a dollar.

Once you get your cool chapeau, you can tag yourself wearing it with the hashtag #get your hat on.

Because giving back never goes out of style.
