Local Korean War Vets Share Stories For Veterans History Project

Veterans in Northern Michigan are sharing their stories with local students so they can be sent to the Library of Congress.

Wexford County Veterans Services asked Korean War vets to come forward and share their wartime experiences, as part of the Veterans History Project.

Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech students recorded interviews with the vets, like Winford Lovelace.

He served in the U.S. Army and says he was thankful for the opportunity to serve his country.

“I was activated for 22 months and then shipped out of there in October of ’52 and finished out my National Guard term February of 1953,” explained Army Veteran, Winford Lovelace. “All the wounded, the war, the blood, it wasn’t too pleasant, but it’s an experience I won’t ever forget.”

The stories and information shared by the veterans will all be sent to the Library of Congress for posterity.
