Hook & Hunting: The End of Firearm Deer Season

Thursday marked the last day of firearm deer season.

Firearm season may have come to end, but you still have a chance to get that buck that may have eluded you this season.

Friday starts the open of muzzleloading season and the reopen of archery season.

The DNR says this has been a successful season with a lot more deer coming into deer check stations, and that has benefited both the DNR and hunters.

“Several reasons why we do deer checks in the state: One of them is for disease collection for those deer heads, but the other thing is to be able to talk one-on-one with the hunters. This is really the only time of year we have hunters coming in and we can hear about what they’re seeing in their area, their opinions or comments on things. They can also get their questions answered that maybe they’ve been always wanting to know,” said Katie Keen, DNR wildlife technician.

If you struck out during firearm season, your deer tags are still valid for muzzleloading season.
