DeVos Approves Implementation of ‘Every Student Succeeds Act’ in Michigan

U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos approved the implementation of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act in Michigan schools.

The ESSA replaced the No Child Left Behind Act nearly two years ago.

Under the plan, states are required to develop their own plans to address standards, assessments and special help for struggling schools.

The state’s superintendent says Michigan’s ESSA plan will include less student testing with a larger focus on student academic growth.

It will also give schools more flexibility on how they choose to improve.
