Traverse City Organizations Collect Donations For Father Fred Turkey Drive

“We give all those turkeys every year and I’m sure we can do more.”

Groups in Traverse City are braving the cold to help put Thanksgiving dinner on empty tables.

Two Northern Michigan organizations have teamed up to get that done.

The Northwest Chapter of Medical Assistants and the Father Fred Foundation set up tables at two different Family Fares across Traverse City on Sunday.

Shoppers could donate money to give a turkey and the rest of a meal to a family in need.

The organizations raised more than $3,000 last year.

They hope to raise double that this year.

“It makes a huge impact,” says Cheryl Bouschor, president-elect of the Northwest Chapter of Medical Assistants. “There are so many people that cannot…the economy has been pretty bad for the last couple of years. There’s a lot of families that are making choices whether to put gas in their car so they can get to work or have a family dinner.”

The drive continues through Sunday.

You can also make donations directly to the Father Fred Foundation.
