Missakee County Dispatchers, First Responders Host Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser

First responders and dispatchers in Missaukee County are making sure local families can put gifts under the tree this year by hosting a chili cook-off to raise money for that cause.

Employees from the Missaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Central Dispatch, EMS and county fire departments teamed up to see who had the best chili on Saturday.

People had to pay for their votes and all the money raised went to .

Project Christmas serves families in Wexford and Missaukee Counties.

They make sure families that might not be able to afford presents around Christmas are still able to put gifts under the tree.

“It makes us feel good, it makes us know that during Christmas everybody is going to benefit from it, the families that definitely need it. It brings everyone together, people in the public can meet their first responders law enforcement, EMS, fire department,” said Dispatcher Christy Marcus.

They hoped to raise more than $1,000 from the chili cook-off.

They also collected donations for coats for kids.
