Michigan DNR Asks Hunters to Report Bears in Dens for Study
The Michigan DNR is asking hunters to let them know about any bear dens they come across this fall.
The DNR wants to fit bears with radio collars, which helps provide information for a management program.
Bears that are selected for study are sedated and fitted with a collar and ear tag.
They will also pull a small tooth to determine the bear’s age and provide a DNA sample before returning the bear to its den to sleep for the rest of the winter.
It is illegal to disturb a bear inside a den.
