Investigators Calling Deadly NYC Attack “Deliberate Act of Terror”
Eight people are dead and at least 11 hurt after a truck plowed down people on a bike path in Manhattan.
Investigators are now calling it a “deliberate act of terror.”
They found a note left in the truck, claiming the attack was in the name of ISIS.
This is the deadliest terror attack in New York since 9-11.
It happened just after 3:00 Tuesday, near the World Trade Center memorial.
Investigators say the suspect, Sayfullo Saipov, was driving a rental Home Depot truck, jumped a curb and drove down a crowded bike path for several blocks.
He then smashed into a school bus.
Police tell us that’s when Saipov got out and started running.
Officers caught up with him and shot him in the abdomen.
We’ve learned Saipov is originally from Uzbekistan, but came to the U.S. in 2010.
In a tweet Tuesday night, President Trump said that he’s “ordering Homeland Security to step up our already extreme vetting program.”
