Macy’s Emphasizes Safety After Gun Found In Store Restroom

Macy’s is reacting on Monday to an incident where a child found a loaded handgun in their store restroom in the Grand Traverse County mall.

It was a scary moment for a father when his four year old daughter came out of a stall holding a gun.

It happened at the Grand Traverse mall on Friday.

The father told his daughter to use the men’s restroom inside Macy’s.

When she came out of the stall, she was holding a loaded handgun in a holster.

She found it on the railing in the stall.

The parent’s met with the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s office and turned the handgun over to them.

Macy’s says customer safety is paramount.

“We are working with local law enforcement,” said Andrea Schwartz, vice president of media relations. “We ask that all questions are directed to the local police department and we ensure that the safety of our customers is our top priority.”

The sheriff’s office is now doing a manual check of the serial number to find the owner which could take up to two weeks.
