4-Year-Old Finds Gun In Macy’s At Grand Traverse Mall
Frightening moments for a father after he says his 4-year-old found a gun in the bathroom at Macy’s.
Grand Traverse deputies are now investigating.
Deputies say it happened Friday evening at the Macy’s located at the Grand Traverse Mall.
Deputies say the gun was found by a 4-year-old in the men’s bathroom.
“Next thing I know my daughter says what’s this and I say what’s what, and she says what’s this and I open the door and she’s sitting there holding a fully loaded handgun pointed right at my chest,” says Cody Swy, father.
Cody Swy was at Macy’s shopping with his two kids.
His daughter found the gun inside the men’s room.
“At that point I just backed up and said you just need to put that down so I can come get it. She said okay, she kind of just pointed it down at the ground and I walked in grabbed it, found the holster next to it, put it in the holster and put it in my pocket. I walked out to the nearest Macy’s employee, called the security guard and then got on the phone and called the police,” says Swy.
Cody says police say the gun was loaded.
This a situation a father never wants to be in.
“That was the main thing that popped in my head was my daughter harming herself holding a fully loaded weapon or possible hurting myself. It’s a scary feeling, my 4-year-old daughter, she’s pretty much my whole world,” says Swy.
We reached out to Macy’s and the Grand Traverse Mall but haven’t heard back.
Cody is thankful no one was hurt.
“Love and hold your kids because you never know when your four or three year old is going to pick up a gun in a parking lot or anywhere. They are everywhere, you just have to be careful,” says Swy.
Deputies are continuing to investigate.
They say they are reviewing video footage and trying to find out whose gun it may be.
