UPDATE: Sault Area HS Lockdown Lifted Following Social Media Threat

An investigation is underway in Sault Ste. Marie after an anonymous threat was made toward a local high school.

It’s a situation we first learned about and have been following since about 8:45 Wednesday morning.

After learning about the threat, Sault Area High School was placed on lockdown, which has since been lifted.

Police cars are still lined up outside Sault Area High School and detectives are inside still working on their investigation.

Sault police say an anonymous threat was made over social media prompting a full investigation of the school.

School is still in session, but during the more than three hour lockdown students were not allowed to enter or leave the building.

Without access to their kids, it’s the unknown that worries parents.

“They say they are being escorted to the bathroom and escorted here and there. I don’t know that she’s safe. I haven’t seen her. She’s my only daughter, so I’m very worried and there are a lot of worried parents,” said parent Jennifer Peterson.

Sault police and the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office are now looking into if this threat was related to a similar incident in Rudyard.

We will work to bring you more details and have continuing coverage on the lockdown throughout the day.
