Shepherd Community Collecting Donations For Pregnant Woman Affected By Hurricanes

The Shepherd community is rallying behind one of their own living down in the U.S. Virgin Islands, hit hard by the hurricanes.

Larissa Leffingwell, a physician’s assistant from Shepherd, moved down to St. Croix to work at the local hospital and with foster kids.

Currently she is 36 weeks pregnant.

During the hurricanes she lost everything she had gotten for the baby and isn’t expected to have power for another month.

Her former teacher, Jay Gross at Shepherd High School is collecting donations for Larissa and her future daughter.

“We went through a miscarriage and didn’t think we could have kids, it was rough. Your students become your kids, it’s one of those things you displace your love and they become your kids and I’ve said it for years,” says Gross.

Jay will be collecting baby items and donations and then sending them down to Larissa later this week.

You can donate items or money by stopping into Shepherd High School.
