State Fair of Texas: Finding Healthy Among the Fried

Fired Twinkies, fried Oreos, fried Coke and even fried butter.

You can get just about anything fried at the State Fair of Texas, which draws millions a year to experience the wide array of food.

But several vendors are working to give festival-goers a healthy option.

Fruteria Cano is serving up sliced mango on a stick—but sticking with the theme, they have another option as well.

Although it’s still fruit, it’s been fried and coated in graham crackers and whipped cream,

And  Doc’s Street Grill, is defying odds, serving up thousands of meals during the season, which none of is fried.

Owner Steve Alate says healthy sells.

With his Caribbean pineapple kornocopia, you can leave full and be conscious of your waist line.

And for those fair-goers who want to resist the temptation of the vendors completely, you can bring a cooler and pack it full of healthy snacks.

But while you’re there, you might as well stop by Fletcher’s Corn Dogs for a traditional fair favorite.
