Cadillac City Officials Break Ground On New Market Building, Trailhead

The Cadillac Farmer’s Market and other various venues will soon have a new and improved home in the heart of the city.

Shovels hit the dirt Monday afternoon, the first step toward building a permanent home for both the Farmer’s and Artisan’s Markets in the Cadillac Commons.

The city also broke ground on a new addition to the trail through town, which will connect the White Pine Trail to Cadillac.

Mayor Carla Filkins says between grants and donations, the city raised more than $125,000 to complete the project.

“You take it one step further and we’ve got the Farmer’s Market two days a week,” Filkins says. “We have the Artisan’s Market two days a week and then the market is going to be freed up and available for anyone who wants

Construction on the new market building is expected to start in just a few weeks.
