Osceola County Family To ‘Saddle Up,’ Raise Money For Cancer Research

The Osceola County Fairgrounds will be booming with the sights and sounds of horses this weekend in an effort to fight cancer.

The source: a family doing all it can to raise money for a good cause.

Kathy Morren and around 20 volunteers put together the very first “Saddle-Up St. Judes” horse show.

Proceeds from barrel-racing, showmanship and other events will go straight to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.

And the theme: the groovy 70s.

Morren says it’s an effort to help cancer research that she takes personally.

“I have had several people in my family with cancer, as well as one of my nieces has juvenile cancer,” Morren says. “I just feel that St. Jude’s is really, really a good program because they treat the kids and the family at no cost to them because, as we know, medical costs can be atrocious.

The first horse shows start Saturday morning at 9:30 am.

Morren’s store, Diamond K, is providing all of the meat for a potluck on Saturday night, starting at 6:30 pm.

You must bring a dish to pass.

Then, that same night, the family will be putting on karaoke.

On Sunday, there will be kids games, cart rides and both speed and barrel races.

A judge will also be observing the events, yet another volunteer.
