Thousands Gather For 60th Annual Bridge Walk

Up to 60,000 thousand people are in route to the Mackinac Bridge Monday morning for the 60th Annual Labor Day Bridge Walk.

For the first time in history, all four lanes of traffic shut down at 6:30.

Northern Michigan’s News Leader will be live on the bridge all day with the latest updates.

The earliest people can start walking on Labor Day is 7:00am and the latest they can start walking is 10:00am.

That’s because the Mackinac Bridge Authority wants to open the bridge back up to traffic right at noon.

The bridge authority says they made the decision to close the bridge after a growing number of terror attacks where vehicles have been used as weapons.

Michigan State Police tell us there is no specific threat to the bridge but extra security measures will help keep walkers safe.

Stay with Northern Michigan’s News Leader as we bring you the latest on air, on line, and on social media.
