National Hurricane Center: Hurricane Harvey May Strengthen to Category 3

The National Hurricane Center is predicting Hurricane Harvey will become a category three storm as it reaches the coast of Texas Friday night.

The National Weather Service issued an official storm surge warning, covering much of the Texas coastline.

Many areas in its path will see a foot of rain, and other areas could see up to three feet, which could be life-threatening for people on the Gulf Coast.

Hurricane Harvey could be the first natural disaster under President Trump, who is currently without a permanent homeland security secretary.

Former Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly is now chief of staff.

But the White House says he could be even more valuable in responding to Hurricane Harvey in his new role.

The storm surge in Corpus Christi could get as high as ten feet, putting many people who live there in danger.

The hurricane is expected to make landfall late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
