Suspect Arrested After Woman Found Dead In Montmorency Co.

“The victim is a 20-year-old female by the name of Kelsi Barrie,” says MSP Alpena Post commander, Lt. John Grimshaw. “We would ask that everybody give their thoughts up for the family and give them their privacy right now during this terrible time.”

We now know the name of a woman murdered in Montmorency County.

Details are still coming in but we know Michigan State Police got a call about a possible stabbing on Klein road in Rust Township Wednesday.

When investigators got there, they found 20-year-old Kelsi Barrie, dead inside a home.

Troopers and detectives later found and detained a suspect, who they say knew the victim.

The victim’s neighbor knew her growing up.

“She was always nice,” says neighbor, Kory Keagan. “She never really talked to her much, she was kind of quiet, towards me at least. But she was always a hard-working student. I think people are going to be shocked. It doesn’t really happen really that often in this area. And when it does it has a pretty devastating effect on the whole community. Everybody knows every here.”

An autopsy is being done Thursday.

State police say they expect the suspect will charged Friday.
