Munson Medical Center Recertified As Level Two Trauma Center

“If it wasn’t for their trauma unit here, I don’t think I’d be sitting here today.

Munson Medical Center is the only Level Two Trauma Center in the northern Lower Peninsula and they recently became recertified.

Trauma Two means a patient who has a traumatic injury or needs the emergency help of a surgeon, has 24 hour access to that immediate care.

For Northern Michigan, that means Munson Medical Center serves around 500,000 people in case of a tragedy.

It’s a certification they have to get every three years from the American College of Surgeons.

David Letts lost one of his legs, suffered multiple broken bones and more from a motorcycle accident on Father’s Day.

He says hearing the hospital has been verified again means more lives like his are saved.

“Fabulous, I can’t imagine if they didn’t have this trauma unit here how many people would probably lose their lives, well it saved mine that’s for sure,” says past trauma patient, David Letts.

Munson Medical Center has been a Level 2 Trauma Center since 2006.
