Antrim Co. Bar Owner Awaits Sentencing Following Assault Conviction

An 84-year-old bar owner in Antrim County will learn his fate after being found guilty of assaulting a state trooper.

Larry Sevenski confronted police on St. Patrick’s Day near his bar in Elmira.

He says he was told troopers were sitting outside the bar, waiting for customers to leave.

Court documents show he approached the troopers, saying he had a bone to pick with them and that he wished he had a weapon.

Troopers testified that when they tried to pat Sevenski down, he made a fist and tried to punch them.

That’s when they took him to the ground.

After several hours of deliberation, a jury found Sevenski guilty last month.

Northern Michigan’s News Leader will be back in the court room Thursday to bring you the latest on Sevenski’s sentencing.
