U.S. Senator Stabenow Visits Boardman River Restoration Project
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) stopped in Traverse City Wednesday to support the restoration of the Boardman River.
It is part of her statewide tour showcasing the impact the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative has on Michigan communities.
Wednesday the senator met with several local and state environmental groups, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, along with city and county leaders on the Cass Road Bridge.
There they discussed the Boardman River Restoration project.
A project that’s received $20 million from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
Senator Stabenow says, “It’ll (Boardman River Restoration project) make a huge difference to the river, to fishing, to the environment, to everything around it. We’ve got to showcase the fact that the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is having a real tangible effect.”
The project will remove the Boardman Dam this fall and plans to remove the Sabin Dam next year.
