DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Pistons are set to play their first game at Little Caesars Arena on Oct. 18 against the Charlotte Hornets. The Pistons have released their 2017-18 schedule, and they’ll begin their season with the game against the Hornets. The Pistons are moving to the downtown arena after nearly three decades in suburban Auburn Hills.
DETROIT (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 16 to 20 years in prison for second-degree murder in the fatal hit-and-run of a Detroit police officer. Fifty-five-year-old Steve Guzina of Lincoln Park also received 10-15-year sentences on each of two other charges: operating under the influence causing death and not stopping at the scene of an accident. The sentences will run concurrently. Guzina pleaded guilty last month to hitting 40-year-old Officer Myron Jarrett.
TAWAS CITY, Mich. (AP) — A second man has been arraigned after being arrested in connection with the slaying of a 72-year-old northern Michigan man whose body was found in a shallow grave behind his home. MLive.com reports 24-year-old Christopher R. Grinnell of Bay City was arraigned Monday in Iosco County District Court on one count of accessory after the fact to a felony in the death of Roger Lee Knickerbocker of Hale.
MUNISING, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say divers searching the waters of Lake Superior for a missing person after a boating accident have recovered a body. Michigan State Police say the Alger County Dive Team located the body Monday near the site of the accident near Au Train Island. Police say a large wave swamped a pontoon boat Sunday evening, sending all seven occupants overboard. Six of the occupants were rescued and treated for hypothermia.
