Explosions in Detroit Send Manhole Covers Flying

A restaurant and hotel in downtown Detroit were evacuated after explosions sent manhole covers flying Wednesday night.

It happened in the city’s Greektown area near Fishbone’s restaurant and the Atheneum Suite Hotel. A door was also blown off a nearby building, hitting and damaging a car.

Authorities say it was caused by an electrical cable failure underground. No injuries were reported.

Crews were sent to make repairs on Thursday.
