Repairs Underway on Mackinac Island Home Following Fire

Repairs are already underway on a Mackinac Island home after it caught fire Thursday night.

The fire started at the lakeshore cottage on Main Street just blocks away from the ferry dock

Parts of the exterior are already boarded up.

The Mackinac Island fire chief tells us that most of the damage is inside.

He says that the fire started on the basement level, causing the main floor of the home to collapse.

Fire teams from surrounding areas were ferried in. Two firefighters were treated for injuries, and one will need surgery after severing a tendon in his thumb.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but they do not believe it’s suspicious.

The home belongs to the Doud family, and we’re told they already have plans to rebuild. They were not home at the time of the fire.
