Houghton Lake Young Leaders Graduate MSP Michigan Youth Leadership Academy

It was a big for more than a dozen young leaders in Roscommon County on Thursday, July 13.

Under the guidance of State Police and deputies, a week of hard work paid off.

Nineteen young men took the stage at Houghton Lake High School as they graduated the Michigan Youth Leadership Academy.

It was the first youth leadership academy to be held in the area, sending this group to Lansing for five days of training courses.

They say their experience at the Lansing Capitol Building will set them up for the future.

“Every day, they learned about things like leadership, discipline, teamwork, how to build a team, how to put other people above themselves and really how to be leaders now and to be our future leaders for our community,” says F/Lt. Josh Lator, Post-Commander at the MSP Houghton Lake Post.

Staff from the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office, State Police and Kalkaska Public Safety also served as mentors during the week.
