Mesick Consolidated Schools Hold Forum to Discuss Funding Alternatives

“The thing of it is, there’s never enough money to stretch.”

Mesick community members are speaking with leaders of their school district who are looking for a way to pay for badly needed repairs.

Mesick Consolidated Schools held a public forum Wednesday night, discussing its failed bond proposal and possible funding alternatives.

Community members were able to speak about why they voted for or against the proposal, which would have funded the project through raised property taxes.

Administrators say no matter where the money comes from, the need for repairs is not going away.

“Schools can only raise money through donations, student count, and bonds or sinking funds. So we are in need of renovations we are going to need to come up with a plan so we can fix our buildings and continue to educate our children,” Scott Akom, superintendent said.

The district will continue to hold forums as they look into the possibility of a sinking fund for the project.
