President Trump’s Proposed Budget Would Cut All Great Lakes Restoration Funding

The budget proposal also completely cuts federal funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

The program was created in 2010 to help restore and protect the lakes.

Since then, it’s streamed more than $2 billion to do just that.

The budget also almost halves the amount of funding for EPA grants to states.

Grants Michigan uses to fund environmental regulations.

Supporters say Great Lakes states are more than capable of picking up the slack.

Critics say it will stop efforts to prevent pollution, stop invasive species and algae blooms.
