West Nile Found In Michigan: Learn To Prevent Against The Virus

The deadliest creature on Earth is lurking in your backyard, and there are millions of them.

The mosquito is buzzing about once again and bringing the West Nile virus with them.

The first West Nile activity for Michigan in 2017 has been confirmed in three birds across the state.

A turkey and two crows in Kalamazoo and in Saginaw.

The best way to protect against the virus is to prevent mosquito bites.

You can protect your home and family from the pesky bugs by wearing longer clothing, putting on bug spray and removing any stagnant water in your area.

“Where there’s mosquitos, there’s a risk, so early morning, evening around swampy areas, in the woods. Those areas with a lot of mosquitos you just really have to take caution. Wear light colored clothing, cover as much of your skin as possible, spray yourself with insect repellant,” said Dr. Jennifer Morse from Central Michigan District Health Department.

And with the rain we have been getting, mosquitos have a haven of places to multiply.
