More than 100 students tested their piloting skills Monday during a drone flying competition at Petoskey High School.
Teams of students from the Charlevoix Emmet ISD operated their handmade drones across a series of obstacles.
The ISD added drone technology to classes at the start of the year, the competition, allows students to apply that classroom knowledge.
Some obstacles proved to be a bit of a challenge, but students used the competition as a way to learn from others.
“The only people I’ve seen fly these is like my own classmates and teammates, to see other schools and to see how they did things a little bit differently it should be interesting,” said Sam Bailey, a senior at Harbor Springs High School.
The team from Pellston took the top prize, and brought home a trophy as well as a new drone for the school’s UAV program.
