Fundraiser Planned To Help Pay For New Benzie Central Track

A Northern Michigan school is holding a fundraiser this weekend to pay for their new track.

About a year ago, The Benzie Central Track and Athletic Stadium Project kicked off with the construction of a brand new track.

The project cost about $210,000.

This weekend’s fundraiser is hoping to raise the last $30,000 needed to pay the school back.

A fun day fundraiser will take place at Watson’s in Benzonia on Saturday.

The event starts at 10:00 a.m. and there will be a car wash, test driving, face painting, and a raffle for a new Jeep Grand Cherokee.

“This new track has been absolutely amazing,” says Lucy Karpukhno.  “Beforehand we were running practically on cement, now we get to do all of our workouts out there, and it looks super cool when you drive up so we’re always super excited to see it. We all love running in track in general, so just being able to run on a bouncy surface and stuff helps our calves, helps our knees, just basically gives us the training that we want..”

Raffle tickets for the Jeep will be sold until July 3.
