It was an exciting day for Sault Ste. Marie as they officially welcome a new Meijer to town.
It’s been two years in the making, but at 7 a.m. Thursday, they finally opened their doors to the public.
The new Meijer has been the talk of town since they bought the site that used to be the old movie theater.
Hundreds of people came inside Thursday morning to get a first look.
The opening helped bring in around 300 jobs to the area.
Meijer hopes it will be a great asset to the community even drawing people from Canada for a visit.
"Some of these things take a long, long time and we appreciate everybody’s patience and now the day is finally here, so it’s great," Meijer chairman Hank Meijer said.
A new Meijer opened in Escanaba Thursday as well.
