Michigan Woman Killed, Multiple People Hurt After Car Plows Through Times Square

One person is dead and more than a dozen others are hurt after a car crashed into a crowd in the Big Apple.

It happened Thursday in Times Square.

Police say Richard Rojas was behind the wheel and had driven on a sidewalk for more than three blocks, running down anyone in his path.

According to the New York City Police Department, Rojas has been arrested and charged with murder, 20 counts of attempted murder and five counts of aggravated vehicular homicide.

18-year-old Alyssa Elsman from Portage, Michigan was killed and at least 22 others were injured.

The car came to a rest with two of its wheels in the air after being stopped by a pole just before noon Thursday.

Cell phone video shows police taking Rojas into custody.

Investigators say Rojas was a Navy veteran and has two prior arrests for drunk driving.

NYPD have ruled out terrorism as a motive.
