Kalkaska Community Honors Fallen Officers During National Police Week

A Northern Michigan community honoring the sacrifices made by law enforcement during National Police Week.

Law enforcement officers gathered at the Kalkaska County Courthouse for the county’s annual law enforcement memorial this afternoon.

Sheriff Patrick Whiteford spoke about the meaning behind national police week.

Deputies and officers from the area also read the names of all 7 Michigan officers killed in the line of duty last year.

“It’s important in our profession to make sure we recognize that, honor that keep them in our thoughts and prayers and keep our current serving officers in our thoughts and prayers,” said Kalkaska County Sheriff Patrick Whiteford.

A moment of silence was also held for the 135 law enforcement officers killed nationwide while serving.
