Tense and awkward moments at a historically black Florida university as U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was heckled while delivering a commencement speech.
During her speech at Bethune-Cookman University, DeVos was booed and mocked, causing her to cut her one hour speech short.
Some students even turned their backs to her.
The demonstration comes in response to a statement by DeVos in February when she described historically black colleges as ‘real pioneers of school choice.’
In a statement after the ceremony, DeVos reiterated her commitment in an effort to show support for the university.
