Village of Kalkaska Celebrates New Water, Sewer Project

Wednesday morning the Village of Kalkaska celebrated new beginnings during a groundbreaking.

The village recently received a $4.2 million low interest loan from the U.S. Department of Agricultural Rural Development for a water and sewer renewal project.

The village applied for the loan back in 2012.

The project includes replacing close to 18,000 linear feet of vintage water main dating back to the 1950s.

Scott Yost, Kalkaska Village Manager and Director of Kalkaska Department of Public Safety says,  “This is a great project for the community, for the businesses and residents in the community so it’s good to be able to provide a water and sewer system that’s reliable.”

The project has started and is expected to be finished sometime in October.
