Boyne City American Legion Hosts Veterans Appreciation Day

It was a day of learning for local students and appreciation for local veterans.

The Boyne City American Legion held their annual Veterans Appreciation Day Wednesday.

Hundreds of students came out to talk to veterans, active duty military members, DNR, law enforcement and first responders.

There were displays of decades old gear and several different types of vehicles.

More than that, veterans say it teaches kids to appreciate what it takes to protect the country.

"By getting them down here and displaying these materials, getting to meet veterans and actually ask questions, they got a chance to enhance their education and learn a little bit more," a Korean War veteran Jerry Evans said.

Each visitor went home with a mini Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights.
