Author William Rapai Discusses Invasive Species In Our Great Lakes

A Michigan author stopped by the Traverse City library Monday night to talk about invasive species in our Great Lakes.

The Grand Traverse Humanists invited William Rapai for a presentation on his new book.

The book “Lake Invaders: Invasive Species and the Battle for the Future of the Great Lakes” talks about not only the ecological damage caused but also the economic damage.

He wants people to know how the Great Lakes are changing, all because of invasive species.

“Unfortunately now that the invasive species are in the Great Lakes, we cannot get rid of them we have to learn to live with them, we have to learn to control them,” said Rapai. “We have to learn to be smart enough not to spread them. We all have a responsibility, we can all do something to prevent the further spread of invasive species.

Of the five Great Lakes, Rapai says Lake Michigan has been the most impacted.
