Consumers Energy Launches Appliance Recycling Program

A company is now offering Northern Michigan residents a safe way to get rid of old appliances.

Consumers Energy has launched their appliance recycling program.

The program gives customers an opportunity to get rid of those old, but still working, freezers and refrigerators.

Consumers Energy then gives a $50 rebate.

If you have a dehumidifier or air conditioner to get rid of as well, they will give you $15 for that.

“The major benefit is saving energy and saving money,” says Consumers Energy employee, Darlene Kusterer. “A lot of people don’t realize what a draw that an older refrigerator or freezer has on their electricity and it takes a lot of electricity, especially the older compressors and stuff.”

Consumers Energy also gives its customers 10 LED lightbulbs when they pick up your appliances.
