Northern Michigan Townships Prepare For Election Day

It’s Election Day and many schools find themselves on the ballot with bond proposals.

The Forest Area Community School District in Grand Traverse and Kalkaska counties is just one of them, with a bond proposal and site sinking fund millage.

Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties are also looking at a millage increase for the Bay Area Transportation Authority.

Townships all over the state spent Monday setting up and getting ready for voters.

“Sometimes the absentee ballot numbers kinda give us an indication of the numbers of people that may come for our regular election,” explains Fife Lake Township Clerk, Terry Street. “Based on those numbers, we may have a fair turn out. It’s our responsibility as American citizens to vote. It’s something that I think that out of respect for our whole nation, voting is a very necessary thing for citizens so I think it’s a very serious thing that people need to do.”

Polls open at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday morning and close at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night.
