U.S. Submarine Arrives in South Korea as North Korea Celebrates ‘Army Day’

A new show of force as North Korea celebrates "Army Day".

The USS Michigan arrived in South Korea Tuesday, the same day the north celebrates the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People’s Army.

In a statement, officials called the sub’s visit "routine" and a chance to highlight the alliance between the United States and South Korean navies.

While the U.S. Navy sub is not expected to take part in the joint exercises, its presence in the region is meant to send a strong message to Pyongyang.

Analyst Jonathan Pollack says the White House needs to proceed with caution.

President Donald Trump is working with China.

The full U.S. Senate will be briefed on the issue of North Korea Wednesday at the White House.
