Michigan Senate Approves Bill To Make Shining Laser At Aircraft A State Crime

Michigan could soon join the list of states making it a crime to hit aircraft with the beams of laser pointers.

Legislation approved Tuesday in the Senate would make it a five year felony to intentionally shine a laser at planes and other aircraft, something that endangers pilots and passengers.

The bill could soon reach Governor Rick Snyder.

Though there have been no known air crashes due to lasers, it’s still a big safety concern.

There are around 7,000 laser strikes a year.
