MDOT: Several Upper Peninsula Roadside Parks Set To Open

Several roadside parks in the Upper Peninsula will open for the season Monday.

The Michigan Department of Transportation owns and maintains 32 roadside parks in the Upper Peninsula, which open in mid- to late April and close in late October.

However, officials say maintenance issues and weather conditions will delay the opening of all roadside parks in Mackinac County.

They also say drinking water systems at all parks won’t be turned on until testing is done in early May.

Roadside parks that will open late this season:

  • Esrey, Hebard and Snow Gauge parks on state highway 26 in Keweenaw County.
  • Cunard Roadside Park on U.S. 2 in Menominee County
  • Kiva Roadside Park on U.S. 41 in Alger County
  • Flowing Well Roadside Park on state highway 117 in Luce County.
